Boston Folk Singer & Guitarist Lindsay Straw , Berkeley’s Fifth Street Farms

Saturday, December 12th @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

$20

Boston-based folk singer, guitarist and bouzouki player Lindsay Straw along with local fiddler Darcy Noonan will be performing a concert of traditional songs and tunes from Scotland, Ireland, and beyond on Saturday, December 12th at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20; visit www.fifthstfarms.com for reservations and further details.

Originally from Montana, singer and instrumentalist Lindsay Straw relocated to Boston in her late teens to study film scoring at the famed Berklee College of Music. Boston’s thriving Celtic scene quickly grabbed her attention, however, and she’s spent the past decade establishing herself as a young and versatile performer (and student) of traditional songs and music from the British Isles. She has impressed with her tender singing voice and an extensive repertoire that is rooted in the Scottish and Northern Irish traditions, but which also delves into contemporary songwriters like Richard Thompson and Bob Dylan. She has also drawn praise for her sensitive, agile accompaniment on bouzouki and guitar at local sessions and in concert and at festivals as a member of the Irish quartet The Ivy Leaf, with piper Joey Abarta, and with fellow guitar & bouzouki player Owen Marshall. Her debut solo album My Mind From Love Being Free, released earlier this year, “finally announced Lindsay Straw onto the folk scene in magnificent style” (Bright Young Folk).

“A voice! By turns husky and sultry, clear and bright, controlled and dreamy; with hints of Cara Dillon and Geraldine Hollett, Lindsay Straw’s beautiful voice shines out in this delightful debut album.” – The Living Tradition

Darcy began playing Suzuki violin with Annemarie Sudermann at age seven about the same time she began lessons at the Healy Irish dance school. With great help from her mother and her father’s endless supply of Irish music and stories, she was able to continue studying both classical music and Irish dance throughout her childhood. After attending Bobbi Nikles’ Fiddlekids camp, Darcy threw herself into playing Irish music. She was inspired by the playing of Liz Carroll, Tommy Peoples, Kevin Crehan, John Carty and Frankie Gavin. She spent two years in Ireland, travelling and studying different styles until she found a second home in Galway city. She has taught classes for the Cooley-Keegan branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, at Lark in the Morning Camp as well as private students. Now she continues her interest in teaching and performing Irish music in the Bay Area.
