1915 Pan Pacific Expo Images of Ireland Presentation
Tuesday, March 17th @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
free - donationsThe Shamrock Isle: Images of Ireland at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915
California Historical Society. A presentation by Elizabeth Creely will explore the dichotomy between the changing landscape of Ireland in 1915 and the “Shamrock Isle,” the Irish exhibit at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition (PPIE) in San Francisco that same year. While Ireland was on the cusp of eventual independence 100 years ago, the PPIE exhibit showed Ireland inhabited by a people untouched by change and frozen in time.
This presentation will be preceded by an exhibit with photographs and other ephemera from the PPIE of 1915, contributed by members of the public. This event is part of a citywide celebration of the centennial celebration of the PPIE. more
A CALL FOR PHOTOS & OTHER EPHEMERA:
Show your family’s history through photos and join in the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Pan Pacific International Exposition (PPIE), also known as the Worlds Fair of 1915.
Crossroads is inviting all residents of the SF Bay Area to search attics and photo albums for family snapshots from 100 years ago. For example, do you have a photo from a grandparent, great-grandparent or other family member from their visit to the PPIE or World’s Fair in 1915? Did they take pictures in front of the Court of Palms? Or the Tower of Jewels?
Share your family pictures and letters with the 12th Annual Irish-American Crossroads Festival and they will include your family photos and letters in an exhibit at the California Historical Society on Wednesday March 17th, 2015 at “The Shamrock Isle: Images of Ireland at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition”.
