McCarthy Family House Concert Santa Cruz

Fiddler Tommy McCarthy & his wife, button accordionist & banjoist Louise, nee Costello, come from families steeped in Irish traditional music as well being owners of one of the premiere venues for traditional music in this country, The Burren in Somerville, Mass.

Son of legendary West Clare musician Tommy McCarthy senior, Tommy grew up in London performing with the many talented Irish performers on the vibrant trad scene there & also with stalwarts from frequent trips back to Co. Clare. Louise was similarly influenced by the session scene in her native Co. Galway.

Tommy & Louise have recently released a critically acclaimed CD, ‘Grace Bay,’ hailed in The Irish Echo as ‘simply beautiful and feels very alive from beginning to end. If I walked into a session sounding like ‘Grace Bay,’ I’d be absolutely delighted.’

Joining Tommy & Louise in concert are fiddler daughter Rose & uilleann piper nephew Peadar, who have been honing their already considerable skills yearly at the Willie Clancy Summer School.

A concert late last year during an Australian tour by this fabulous family foursome led Brisbane’s Broadway News to enthuse, ‘There was so much life in the music they had the listeners enthralled. It was a memorable evening.’
