Festival day three, A THOUSAND THOUGHTS, features Malian balafon player Fodé Lassana Diabaté joining Kronos for the US premiere of Sunjata’s Time, his new work written for Kronos’Fifty for the Future project. Kronos also performs Irish composer Donnacha Dennehy’s One Hundred Goodbyes
 for the upcoming centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising, the rebellion that led to Ireland’s independence. Homayun Sakhi Trio, consisting of Homayun Sakhi, Salar Nader, and Abbos Kosimov, joins Kronos to perform Sakhi’s Rangin Kaman (Rainbow), which he composed for Kronos and his trio in 2008. The day begins with a series of intimate afternoon solo and duo performances by Ritva Koistinen on the Finnish kantele followed by Fodé Lassana Diabaté on the balafon; Vân-Ánh Võ on the Vietnamese đàn Tranh with multi-instrumentalist David Coulter; and Mariana Sadovska, voice and Indian harmonium, with special guest, the Bay Area’s own KITKA.
