Jackie Ryan: Tribute to Sarah Vaughan
JazzTimes magazine calls Jackie Ryan “one of the most outstanding vocalists of her generation,” and it’s difficult to disagree. The Bay Area native has been on the rise since the late 1990s, when her acclaimed debut album, For Heaven’s Sake, made a big splash on the jazz scene, and the accolades have continued to flow in ever since. A singer of Mexican and Irish descent, Ryan has lent her sublime voice to work with jazz heavyweights Clark Terry, Toots Thielemans, Jon Hendricks, Ernie Watts and others, and released seven superb albums. Her latest recording, Listen Here, was produced and arranged by Grammy-winning bassist John Clayton, and soared to the number one position on JazzWeek’s national charts, staying there for four weeks. For this intimate performance in the Joe Henderson lab, Ryan will be paying tribute to legendary jazz vocalist Sarah Vaughan.
