Clare Muireann Murphy has a startling vocal range and arresting physicality making her performances gleam. In town for a short stint to perform at the Bay Area Storytelling Festival, Shotgun invited Murphy to moonlight at Ashby Stage with two of her best; Inisfail and The King of Lies.
On Monday, April 20 Murphy will perform INISFAIL, Island of Destiny . Kings are healed by children, fathers vie with sons, one-eyed giants make their bid for power, and lusty monsters spit in the face of the prophets. It’s an evening of giant warriors, jealous kings and limb loss.
On Tuesday, April 21 Murphy will perform The King of Lies: A Story for Syria. A lying contest with an edge, literally. Traditional stories from Syria are wrapped in a contemporary telling. Devised from Rafik Schami’s, Damascus Nights.
