Want to hear some truly unique Celtic jazz performed by Irish singer, songwriter, and radio host, Melanie O’Reilly, in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day? Come next Sunday, March 19, 2017, from 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Albans Church, Albany. Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, this trio has a riveting, innovative and unique sound building a bridge between Irish music and jazz. The trio embarks on a musical Celtic jazz voyage inspired by Irish poetry, Gaelic culture and the works of literary giants such as James Joyce. Accompanying O’Reilly, is the renowned Frank Martin (Sting, Michael Narada Walden) on piano and the multi-talented Fred Randolph on bass. Flautist Jane Lenoir will join for some tunes. http://melanieoreilly.com/RTE Radio Ireland says: “Melanie O’Reilly’s musical settings for Seán Ó Riordáin’s poems add new dimensions to his work. Her jazz treatments add fresh understanding to the poems, presenting them in a female voice and in rhythms that challenge more traditional interpretations of his work. Her settings allow us a new route to the poet’s mind, allowing fresh air into a room that appeared stale to some and closed to many.” “A thoroughly modern take on the jazz tradition.... utterly transformative“. Ken Kubernik : Record Producer/Journalist Music Connection.
