Robert Burns Supper

Saturday, January 27th @ 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm

South Bay Scottish Society
Invites You To Their…
24th Annual Burns Night

A Burns Supper is a world wide celebration of the life and poetry of the poet, Robert Burns, held on or near the poet’s birthday, 25 January. Full Audience Participation is encouraged with Ceilidh Dancing & culminating participation in Auld Lang Syne.

Entertainment by Julia Horner & The Crooked Road Céilí Band’ featuring hammered dulcimer, fiddle, guitar, tenor banjo, & bodhran. Included are songs and poetry of Robert Burns ~ “The Selkirk Grace”, “Address to the Haggis” with a bagpipe procession. There will be wee dram whisky toasts after the Immortal Memory, Toasts to the Lads & Lasses, in souvenir glasses.

Recently, the Outlander episode 3.05, “Freedom & Whisky,” found inspiration for its title in a poem by Scottish poet Robert Burns and would parlay this bit of Scottish history with the story of Jamie and Claire’s reunion. This represents a lovely tribute to the Bard, Robert Burns, and a nod to that period in Scotland’s history when individual freedom was highly valued and sought. Just as Claire longed for the life she had left behind, many of Burns’ poems illustrated a longing for the auld Scots way of life free of the burden of oppression.
